Our amazing night out in downtown Pittsburgh at Industry Public House and Arsenal Bowling was one for the books! It was our first *official* event since we shed the book club title. Using our suburban mama skills, we set up a solid carpool and took our mini-vans downtown! *Side note, my friend has a very sweet, very tricked-out SUV and would be upset if I said she drove a minivan.*
Industry Public House easily accommodated our large party in a cool lounge space looking out onto Butler Street. Parking was super easy because there was a lot right across the street. The drink menu and on-tap drink selection was great! I had some local hard cider and loved checking out everyone’s cute cocktails. I’ll link their site here.
After drinks & snacks, we headed over to the historic Arsenal Bowling Lanes. This place is definitely nostalgic with all the feels of a classic bowling alley. I both love & hate the funky carpeting on the floors AND the walls. The neon lights and figurines in the window outside were definitely a plus.
The bowling was pretty straightforward, but I absolutely loved watching everyone’s reactions after their turn bowling. Some competitive spirits definitely made an appearance and it was so entertaining and hilarious. The different bowling techniques, superstitions, and victory dances had us all doubled over.
We cheered and coached each other while taking turns making trips to the bar back behind the lanes. The 80s/90s DJ made things interesting and definitely played some gems to play during our time there.
I really think Arsenal would be a great night out for just about anyone, but especially a group of couples/neighbors who are down for a good time. The only hindrance was that the bowling leagues can be pretty serious, so during the winter, getting a lane reserved before 9 pm can be tricky. You also have to reserve the lane(s) for a three-hour block. We went on a Thursday so if we could have started a little earlier, I think we would have definitely stayed a little longer and used our full three-hour bowling reservation. The pending early wake-ups and morning mama duties definitely hindered the fun a little bit, but I know everyone had a blast and will be happy to go back again!
